Drinking on the job

My Father in Law moved in with us, after being admitted to the hospital for a vitamin deficiency that led to other complications.  So, we got a caretaker to look after him - take his vitals, give medication, assist with mobility, etc.

While recovering at our house, he then got Covid and Malaria.  When I told the caretaker that she needs to take precautions like wearing a face mask & sanitizing, she said “It’ll be no problem.  I don’t get sick as long as I take hot drinks.  Can you please go get me some?”  “ Sure,” I said, “we have plenty of tea.  Is that what you want?”  “Yes, that’s ok.”

My cook laughed at me.  He said she meant alcohol. 🙈. Then, come to find out, she had actually helped herself to our stash of alcohol that night, and had our nanny buy her a couple satchets earlier in the week.  Fired that day.

Overheard

I’m sitting in the waiting room of a Dr’s office, along with a number of other people.  We can all hear this guy on the phone.  He’s on a job interview!  We can all hear him talking through his work experience, and how he would handle certain work situations.  His expectation for pay is 250,000ngn / $4,250 annually.  

Last week, I was standing in line at ColdStone creamery.  The guy in front of me was paying.  He read out his PIN for the cashier to enter.!. 🤪

When people say "This is Nigeria" this is what they mean

I need a yellow fever card to travel.  

So checked with the hospital who will give the shot, but dont have the yellow fever cards.

And the people who have the yellow fever cards dont give the shot.

When your driver is illiterate

8+ years later, Still Discovering

5 guys, in the middle of Akin Adesola,  in the middle of a street, behind a stopped water truck, you know the ones that spew water and must be empty by the time they get tolder their destination.... the guys are bathing!  Full on soap and suds and sponges.

I had to ask my driver what the heck are they doing.  Apparently they were working, probably laying sand in the median, and finished work and decided to take a bath with the free water.  " Is it that they are "stealing" water?  Then the core problem must be they don't have water at home."  Apparently not, driver says they probably just wanted to get clean before they went home.  :-
